Geo Technical Assistant: Materials Laboratory (2 Posts Available in Oudtshoorn)

The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government has opportunities for two (2) competent individuals to assist in delivering a geo-technical service in respect of quality control testing to road pavements, reseal of roads, regravelling of roads and road maintenance activities.
Minimum Requirements
- Senior Certificate (Grade 12 or equivalent qualification) with Mathematics/ Mathematical Literacy; Accreditation with SANAS (South African National Accreditation System) in laboratory tests; A minimum of 1 year experience in construction or laboratory environment or road building materials; A valid code B (or higher) driving licence. NB: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also Competencies A good understanding of the following: Laboratory testing / Sampling / Road Construction materials; Knowledge of laboratory and field work; Knowledge of road maintenance and road construction; Knowledge of road related materials; Knowledge of internal auditsOperating laboratory testing equipment including nuclear density apparatus; Operating equipment (jackhammer, compactors) that relates to sampling; Communication skills (verbal and written); Planning and organising; Problem solving; People management.
- R 228 321 - R 268 950 per annum (Salary level 5)
- Note on remuneration in addition service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
- Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. All shortlisted candidates shall undertake two pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.
